The effect of political programs and activites of the progressives is to show people that there are people trying to help the average joe and his family for example the Children's Bureau helps show people National data on plenty of cases of abuse and neglect towards children and helps fund money for them and provide a proper childhood

It took a while for everyone to see how the lower class struggeled to make ends meet and also how bad thier working conditions were. Also for the meat packing business and how bad thier meat was and the unsanitary conditions of the workers. Which lead to a lot of reform bills for the public health.

Josh,

I am glad you mentioned the Children's Bureau. It seems that there were quite a few different progressive initiatives out there! Perhaps you could give some more detail on the Children's Bureau as that is most interesting!

Santos,

It did take quite some time for America to acknowledge the struggle of the poor. Perhaps that was due, in part, to the ease of denial in order to maintain the comfort of wealthy living. Do you see any overlooked elements of poverty or plight of the worker today?
