The 1920's was seen as the rise of communism after WWI. The United States' economic boom ended by "Black Tuesday" as the stock market crashed triggering to the Great Depression. Technology wise however, it rose. Warner Brothers produces the first movie with a soundtrack in 1926. Two years later the first color television was invented. Other things that occured during the 1920's was that the Ku Klux Klan rose to over 5 million members. This was also a time of women rebeling against society and trying to gain independence.

The 1920's was known as an era of critical breakthrough in not only social and cultural developments but plenty of other things. Some of the developments of the 20's is that mostly every area except for maybe agriculturally america grew and flourished in its rennaisance era.

Linda and Emelyn,
Great jobs! You guys found examples and analyzed well... could have elaborated more, but overall it was a good effort. I like the idea of the 20's being an age of parties:)
Josh,
Great concept on Renaissance in the 20's... of course the real renaissance was in the 1300's, but do develop that idea with more specific example/detail of events in the 20's.
The 1920's is reffered to as the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties. During this period jazz music blossomed and the flappers redefined modern womenhood. The Roaring Twenties began in North America and spread to Europe after World War I. These years were considered the "crazy years" because of all jazz, and jazz is considered a fun and amusing way to dance and party.

Flappers
The term flapper in the 1920s referred to a "new breed" of young women who wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, listened to the new Jazz music, and flaunted their disdain for what was then considered acceptable behavior. The flappers were seen as brash for wearing excessive makeup, drinking, treating sex in a casual manner, smoking, driving automobiles, and otherwise flouting conventional social and sexual norms.
