The great depression started in the year 1929. The main reason for the great depression was that the stock market crashed. Today October 29, is called black Tuesday, named after the stock market crash. A lot of people started to use credit cards and owing money to the bank. There was a lot of unemployment and poverty as well as homelessness and organized protests.

Great summary, Joanna! Frightening how similar it is to today and our real estate market! I would be interested to hear you talk more about the human toll... a lot of suffering when on during the Great Depression and I am curious which stories touch you personally the most?
