I know that the Enlightenment was thought emerged that science and reason could by used to improve society, law and government. John Locke once wrote TWO TREATIES OF GOVERNMENT IN 1690- “NATURAL RIGHTS” of citizens (life, liberty and property) and Baron de Montesquieu- powers of government should be divided.

hi (:
ok well the enlightenment was when people started thinking that "logic and reason...could also be used to improve society, law, and goverment" (American Anthem 23). During this period of time the Two Treaties of Government were written. They stated that protecting the "natural rights" of citizens (life, liberty, and property) was the job of the government. Also, the idea of dividing government's powers was introduced by Baron de Montesquieu, who wanted to limit the power of the monarchy. The Enlightment Era influenced the Decloration of Independence and later influenced the US Constitution(limited gov. & divided powers). (:
yes , the end. (:

The American Enlightenment is a term sometimes employed to describe the intellectual culture of the British North American colonies and the early United States (as they became known following the American Revolution). It was a part of a larger intellectual movement known as the Age of Enlightenment. Influenced by the scientific revolution of the 17th century, the Enlightenment took scientific reasoning and applied it to human nature and society. There was a shift from God-centered thinking to human being centered. Instead of going through life unhappy and thinking they had to suffer so they could enjoy the afterlife - people began to think about what they could accomplish on earth.
